Morvunskar (or Fort Morvunskar) is a military settlement located in the mountains southwest of Windhelm in Skyrim.

The fort is located on strategic high ground overlooking the main roads to Windhelm. However, it serves no true military purpose; instead, it was built to guard the crypts located there. Many great Nord warriors were buried at Morvunskar, and in the Second Era it was used by Skyrim's nobility. Notably, Queen Nurnhilde was buried there with the Crown of Freydis after her death in 2E 572. In 2E 582, the forces of Fildgor Orc-Thane stormed the fort in order to steal Nurnhilde's corpse and the Crown. Morvunskar was quickly taken back by Jorunn the Skald-King's forces, but Fildgor escaped with his gruesome prize. At the time, plans to build an even larger fort were in place.[1][2][3]

Morvunskar eventually fell into disuse and was abandoned. In 4E 201, Sanguine and the Last Dragonborn planned to hold a wedding at the ruins after a night spent drunkenly exploring Skyrim. The ruins were under the control of a group of hostile warlocks at the time, led by an Altmer named Naris the Wicked. When the Dragonborn journeyed to the ruins the next day, Sanguine opened a portal to the Misty Grove.[4]
