Aliera (uh-lee-ruh), also unknown as the Runaway Queen, the Thief, the Armsdealer, and the Uniter of Tamriel,[1][UOL 1] is written in myth to have been the Princess of Wayrest,[nb 1] and is described as having been active sometime in the centuries after the fall of the Empire of the Nords (circa 1E 420) but before the arrival of the Redguards (circa 1E 792).[1] Aliera is described as the mother of King Edward of Daggerfall, though accounts differ on if King Corcyr of Daggerfall was the father or King Moraelyn of Ebonheart.[1][UOL 1]
History[edit]
Queen of Daggerfall[edit]
Aliera married King Coycyr of Daggerfall as arranged of her parents at Wayrest per the custom of the culture at the time, and she tried to make the marriage work, but her husband shunned her and Aliera disengaged from her marriage.[1] Later, King Moraelyn R'aathim of Ebonheart came to High Rock wanting to mine for ebony in the Wrothgarian Mountains. The land had been in the Aliera's dowry from her marriage to Corcyr, and so Moraelyn had come to Daggerfall. Corcyr despised Dark Elves, so Aliera was made to negotiate the deal.[1] This later led to Aliera and Moraelyn committing an affair, and subsequently running off together.[1]
Queen of Ebonheart[edit]
Aliera became a core member of Moraelyn's Companions, a group of heroes and adventurers, and later married Moraelyn himself and became his Queen consort, taking on the name Aliera R'aathim.[1][UOL 1] Additionally, Aliera as an anti-hero figure, engaging in arms dealing and committing sins comparable to any other great tyrant the kings of the Iliac Bay are known to do.[UOL 1] In her later life, Aliera is described as having united Tamriel and founded an empire with her husband and son.[UOL 1][nb 2]
Notes[edit]
- While the only sources for Aliera's existence come from in-world fiction, Moraelyn's Companions are have real life Shrines dedicated to them throughout the Iliac Bay[5] and bards are known to sing songs about the lives and efforts of Kings Edward and Moraelyn,[6] as well as the existence of Edward's Mountain near the city-state of Daggerfall,[7][8] indicating that these characters were real historical figures by some measure.
