Kinlord Orlemar Corelanya the Builder was the liege of Western Solstice who led the Corelanya Clan for the majority of the 11th century of the First Era.[2] It was during his tenure that most of the Colleges on the isle began to grow in prominence.[1]
History[edit]
Reign[edit]
The nature of the relationship shifted when Earlenque Corelanya passed in 1E 1017 and her son Orlemar became kinlord. Clan Corelanya had grown strong over a hundred years, and in Orlemar's estimation Sunport was too narrow a kingdom for his people when so much of western Solstice remained thinly settled." —History of Clan Corelanya by Regent Karinwe Corelanya[1]
Little is known about Orlemar's early life, except that he was the son of Earlenque the Great, who led the Corelanya exodus to Solstice. He succeeded his mother as clan ruler following her death in 1E 1017.[2][1] While Earlenque focused on maintaining peace with the local Argonian tribes, fortifying the city's defenses, and giving her people a chance to recover and thrive, Orlemar adopted a more expansionist approach. Over the course of a century, Clan Corelanya had regained some of its strength, and Orlemar saw Sunport as too narrow a realm for a people with such renewed vigor, especially when much of western Solstice remained sparsely settled. Under Kinlord Orlemar's rule, ambitious nobles were granted rights to establish towers and estates across the island. Likewise, many of Sunport's Colleges, modeled after the Sapiarchs of Summerset eagerly embraced the opportunity to help shape the island's future.[1]
Initially, the Corelanyas expanded cautiously, settling lands left vacant by the retreating Tide-Born Argonians in the west. But as these Argonian groups continued to withdraw, Corelanya ambitions swelled. Entire Argonian villages gradually found themselves hemmed in by elven estates, their territories absorbed through deals that were often exploitative or of questionable legitimacy. For the first time since their return to Solstice, open conflict erupted between the Corelanyas and the Argonian peoples.[2]
The Tide-Born offered little effective resistance. Dispersed and lightly armed, they lacked the numbers, weaponry, and magical prowess to challenge the disciplined and well-equipped Corelanya forces, and were steadily pushed back. In contrast, the Stone-Nest Argonians proved far more formidable. When Corelanya nobles attempted to claim lands the Stone-Nest regarded as sacred or strategically vital, they were met with organized, determined opposition. In some cases, hundreds of armed warriors stood ready to defend their ground; in others, the opposition came more subtly, as Argonian assassins struck down lords before their estates could even rise.[1] Orlemar died in 1E 1101, though whether his death was connected to the ongoing Argonian conflict remains uncertain.[2]
Legacy[edit]
Son of Earlenque, liege of Western Solstice. Honored be his memory. " —Tombs of the Kinrulers[2]
Following his death, he was succeeded as the leader of the Clan Corelanya by his cousin Psynande. He also had a child who did not ascend to the position of leadership. Instead, following the death of Orlemar's cousin, rulership passed to his grandson, Kevarian. Orlemar was laid to rest in the Corelanya Crypt and remembered as the builder and liege of Western Solstice. His memory was honored, and he was held in reverence.[2] Orlemar features prominently in History of Clan Corelanya, authored by Regent Karinwe, the leader of Clan Corelanya during the Interregnum.[1]
