Rangidil Ketil, the thrice-blessed, was a Dunmer and the commander of the Temple Ordinators. His most renowned accomplishment was defeating Dagoth Thras in Abernanit.[1]
History[edit]
Little is known of the early life of Rangdil Ketil. He was born in 2E 803. He assumed the role of commander of the Temple Ordinators at some point prior to 3E 150.[1]
In 3E 150, Morrowind faced a substantial threat as there were indications of the potential resurgence of the Sixth House, spearheaded by the presumed heir, Dagoth Thras within Abernanit. In response to this danger, the Tribunal, bestowed their divine blessings upon the hero, Rangidil Ketil. Tasked with a contingent of Ordinators and Buoyant Armigers by the Tribunal Temple, Rangidil undertook a sacred mission to quell the House Dagoth and return it to its eternal rest. This historical event came to be known as the Siege of Abernanit.[1]
Abernanit's denizens, fortified by the strength bestowed upon them by Mehrunes Dagon, far surpassed the numbers of the Ordinators and Armigers. Despite the overwhelming odds, the cultists were staunchly repelled by the Temple's defenses. Rangidil discerned the malevolent gaze of Dagoth Thras from his ominous spire. Determined to face the heir head-on, Rangidil orchestrated a bold offensive, only to witness Thras systematically decimating the forces. Realizing the futility of a direct confrontation, Rangidil strategically withdrew, leaving him with no choice but to ascend the tower alone and confront the looming threat.[1]
The ensuing battle unfolded as a one-sided struggle, with Rangidil's formidable Ebony weapons proving ineffective against Thras's impervious defense. Forced to resort to cunning tactics, Rangidil appealed to Thras's vanity, entreating the Mer to share the secret of his unparalleled blocking prowess. Initially cooperative, Thras found himself unable to articulate the innate skill that protected him. Seizing this moment of vulnerability, Rangidil capitalized on Thras's confusion, delivering the decisive blow that put an end to the menace of the House Dagoth in Abernanit.[1]
Rangidil Ketil passed away in 3E 195 at the age of 288. Fifty years following the siege and five years after Ketil's demise, an epic titled Death Blow of Abernanit was composed by an anonymous author. Later, the sage Geocrates Varnus added notes to the manuscript.[1]
