Morrowind talk:Gender
Rewrite Note[edit]
Under the "Other" section, it is mentioned to be inappropriate if a male character (Bosmer, for example) makes romantic or sexual remarks at the player character if one's gender is male. I move that this homophobia be rewritten. --217.157.160.83 15:10, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- If you want to rewrite it, go ahead, but I don't think it's homophobic because it is odd. The dialogue rules mean that every single Bosmer you meet can tell you how attractive you are no matter what your gender is. That would be like discovering that every Scot (for instance) is gay and open about it. Feel free to change the text but the bizarre responses are worth mentioning. rpeh •T•C•E• 15:56, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
mana/health[edit]
im pretty sure females have more magicka and less health than males, but that might be due to lower and higher intelligences but might be worth mentioning (Eddie the head 14:28, 24 April 2011 (UTC))
- These differences are all mentioned on the Races page, since it is race-dependent. --Brf 14:31, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
Male Greeting Bug[edit]
I've been playing as a male Altmer on an unmodded Morrowind (latest patch), and I've noticed that (with a high disposition) male Redguard and other male Altmer will occasionally comment with female oriented greetings, "Not a lot of pretty ladies..." and "Please, madame..." respectively. Has anyone else noticed this bug? Peterpeterohsofeeter 19:01, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
- The "Not a lot of pretty ladies..." one isn't a bug. It's an "idle" dialogue, not a PC-specific one, so the NPC is just voicing his thoughts. The other one is a bug. The condition tests that the NPC is a male and that the "Same Sex" function evaluates to "1" rather than 0. rpeh •T•C•E• 19:13, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

- Got it. So it can be assumed that it would require a patch to correct this and can't be solved in-game? Peterpeterohsofeeter 06:09, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
- EDIT: This bug was fixed by the Morrowind Patch Project. Peterpeterohsofeeter 12:37, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

- It was not. There are still some NPCs that respond incorrectly. --Brf 14:09, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

- i had the same thing happen. this bug affects ALL savegames. people just dont notice it sometimes.
- this bug ONLY affects MALE breton npcs and MALE high elf npcs. all other npcs work fine. its not a bug on your character but on the greeting of these two npc sets. so it cannot be avoided. since its only these 2 races and genders it happens with youll rarely hear it. — Unsigned comment by 77.188.16.151 (talk) at 21:14 on 21 September 2013

Error in the page title.[edit]
I am surprised nobody has noticed this for so many years, but why is this page called "Gender" and talks about Gender, when both the in-game Race Selection Menu, and the variables in the CS only mention Sex? I first noticed this error on the Morrowind:Races page, because it is a very obvious error in the context of Character Creation, since (as I mentioned) the in-game Menu clearly states "Change Sex", not "Change Gender". I am sure everyone is aware that Gender and Sex are not interchangeable terms in the modern English language, and even if they were it would still be strange to use a different term than the game itself uses. It is clear that in Morrowind it is Sex that is being defined as Male or Female, both from the term used and from the fact that it defines the physical characteristics and appearance of the character's body. I propose to change the page title to Morrowind:Sex and edit all mentions of Gender on Morrowind-centric pages to Sex.
