Quick Walkthrough[edit]

Note: Most of this quest is skipped unless you have the Unofficial Oblivion Patch installed. Without, it skips straight from Bittneld complaining about the town's women to Emfrid thanking you for bringing them together.
Note: This quest does not appear in your journal

  1. Talk to a local author who wants to play matchmaker.
  2. Talk to Bittneld the Curse-Bringer about himself and his town.
  3. Talk to Emfrid about Bittneld.
  4. Return to Bittneld with a suggestion.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

The Matchmaker[edit]

Author Casta Scribonia is well known for her romantic stories, but turns out to be equally romantic in life. When asked about Chorrol, she will tell you about two lonely existences in town, a guard captain and the proprietor of the local inn. She thinks they would be a perfect match, but will never reveal their names.

The Lonely Guard[edit]

The captain of the Chorrol guard, Bittneld the Curse-Bringer, seems to enjoy his work but isn't so keen on the town's female population. Ask him about Chorrol and he will tell you that although he thinks the women are "fine-looking", he also thinks they're snooty and not very nice.

The Lonely Barmaid[edit]

Most of the town's women don't want to talk about Bittneld but the publican of The Grey Mare, Emfrid, thinks he seems like a nice fellow and she regrets not seeing him in her inn more often.

Playing Cupid[edit]

Head back to Bittneld and ask him about Chorrol again. This time you get to ask him what he thinks of Emfrid. He isn't keen initially. She runs the Grey Mare but he goes to The Oak and Crosier because he's a captain and the Oak caters to "a better class of people". Bittneld suddenly wakes up to what he's saying: he has become just as "snooty" as the women he complains about. He agrees to stop in at the Grey Mare and find out if Emfrid is interested.

The Happy Couple[edit]

From now on, Bittneld visits the Grey Mare every day at 6pm and spends four hours in the company of Emfrid. She is delighted by his attention, and thanks you for bringing the two of them together. Speaking to Casta Scribonia will reveal that she is more than pleased about the new couple in town.

Notes[edit]

  • This quest's dialogue is actually kept in a quest called EmfridDEMO. Despite its name, this quest also contains dialogue for Eronor and Brother Piner, and seems to have originally functioned to set up some basic NPC functions for an unknown demo. It's possible that the small amount of dialogue that made it into the final game was never meant to be accessible in the first place.

Bugs[edit]

  • The "Chorrol" topic might not disappear from Bittneld's dialogue. Emfrid will incorrectly say he visits her every day, and the quest can't be completed.
  • The "Bittneld" topic may not appear for Emfrid.
    • On PC Using the console command AddTopic BittneldTopic may fix this issue.
