When you speak to him while the related quest is not active, you will find him panicking over his wife's ring.

"I can't leave. I can't leave without it!"

Quest-Related Events

He explains his situation to you.

"Excuse me, please. I must look for her ring. Can't leave without it."

I need you to leave. You can come back for your ring later.

"No, no! Her ring, it's all I have left. All that's left of my Fara.
I've just … I've misplaced it."

[Intimidate] If the Daedra hear you, they're not going to give you time to look.

"Damn it. Fine, fine. I'll go.
My Fara. Will I ever find you again?"

You'll find her better alive than dead. Get moving.

Do you have any idea where it is? Let me help you look.

"Oh, thank you! Threefold blessings upon you.
It could be anywhere. This old place is so messy."

Keep looking. I'll do the same.

Speaking to him again if you choose to find the ring:

"It must be here somewhere. Please, keep looking."

Talk to him again after finding the ring.

"Do you have it?"

I found it. Please, take it and get going.

"Thank you. Thank you so much. My Fara is grateful too, I know it."

After the quest, he will say the same thing whether or not you have found his ring during the quest.

"Excuse me, please. I must look for her ring. Can't leave without it."
