Quest-Related Events[edit]
Before the quest:
- "Careful, friend. The General has been acting strangely and there's no telling what he's going to do today."
Rules and Regulations[edit]
After speaking to the General and he sends you to find the spy, before leaving the Tal'Deic Keep, Ragna will stop you at the door:
- Ragna Stormcrag : "You there! Hold a moment!"
She will be surprised that the general thinks she's a spy. As a result, she needs your help to see what is wrong with the general:
- "What fresh madness has the General come up with today?"
- He thinks you're a Nord spy.
- "Well, that's a new one.
I've been the General's bodyguard for nearly a decade. If I was plotting against him, I think I'd have made my move by now." - He wants me to expose you.
- "I'm risking my neck telling you this, but I don't know what else to do.
I think the General's gone mad. One moment he sees traitors everywhere, the next he's canceling security patrols. There's no telling what crazy whim will spur him on next." - You certainly don't seem like a spy to me.
- "I've devoted my life to protecting the General and helping the Pact. That's why I need to find out what's wrong with him.
Maybe you can help me." - What do you want me to do?
- "The General ordered me to stay out of his quarters on the lower level. He's never done that before and I want to know what he's hiding.
He's posted a guard, but if you can get past him and search the room, maybe you can find out what's going on." - I'll see what I can find.
Agree to help and she'll say:
- "Keep an eye out for anything suspicious. Something's not right here. I won't rest until we figure it out."
- Is there anything you can do to help?
- "The General accused me of being a spy. If I'm caught snooping around, he'll arrest me.
I can't very well protect the fort while I'm locked in a cell, can I?" - [Persuade] You need to give me something to go on.
- "Hmm. Well, I do know that the guard watching the General's quarters, Defender Furen, hasn't been paid lately. Maybe you can use that, hmm?"
- That's it?
- "Best I can do on short notice. Sorry."
- But you're all right with me taking the risk?
- "I'm asking for your help. Not for me, but for the General and everyone stationed here.
Something's seriously wrong and we need to get to the bottom of it."
- "I'm asking for your help. Not for me, but for the General and everyone stationed here.
After speaking to Defender Furen and before investigating the general's quarters:
- "The General acts stranger by the day. It's like I don't know him at all anymore."
After speaking to Defender Furen and investigating the general's quarters, if you speak to her before leaving the keep, she'll only say:
- "You've got a look in your eye like you're onto something. Don't let me keep you!"
After speaking to Captain Doronil and looking for the new retainer, you will return back to the keep to inform her of your findings:
- "How goes your investigation? Any luck?"
- I found this note. I think there's something suspicious about the General's new retainer.
- "The ruins by the river? The General had them sealed off and commanded that the place was off limits. Huh. Curiouser and curiouser."
What Lies Beneath[edit]
If you have not started the quest, she will say:
- "Find anything interesting out there?"
Speaking to her to start the quest:
- "Something is influencing the General. We need to find out what's wrong with him."
- What do you suggest? (Leads to quest dialogue)
Otherwise continuing on from the previous conversation, you will need to investigate the nearby ruins to see what the general is up to:
- "We need to find out more about the General's retainer, this Durel Gilveni. Why did the General send him into the ruins? And who are those others the note refers to?"
- I could go down there and take a look.
- "I was hoping you'd say that. If I disappear, someone might notice and raise an alarm.
The entrance to the ruins is down by the river, beyond the mess tent. If you find anything of significance, take it directly to Captain Valec." - I'm on my way.
Speaking to her again:
- "Be careful in those ruins. No telling who these mysterious others may be."
Defeat the impostor general in the Tal'Deic Crypts then speak with Captain Valec Doronil in the keep. Tell him of Ragna's help and he will tell you he'll give her a promotion. Just then, Ragna will enter the room:
- Captain Valec Doronil: "Ah, Stormcrag. Good timing. Come here!"
- Ragna Stormcrag: "Sorry, Captain. Didn't mean to eavesdrop."
- Captain Valec Doronil: "News of the General's death will spread quickly. We must maintain order."
- Ragna Stormcrag: "More Dark Elf discipline and protocol? That's what caused this mess."
- Captain Valec Doronil: "That's why I want to appoint you as my aide and advisor, so our discipline doesn't blind us again."
- Ragna Stormcrag: "Me? Yes, I'd be happy to help keep the fortress on track."
Speak to her again and she'll say:
- "Captain Doronil made me his second-in-command. We'll have Tal'Deic Fortress in top form by week's end!"
Shattered Hopes[edit]
She can later be found at the Pact's camp near Honrich Tower, having a conversation with Captain Valec Doronil. After you defeat Thallik Wormfather and retrive the haft of Wuuthrad, she will disappear.
Notes[edit]
- She is the author of a letter addressed to Yrna Stormcrag.
- When starting What Lies Beneath, Ragna says "Curiouser and curiouser." This is a quote from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland which takes place in a subterranean fantasy world.
