Last Dragonborn | Unknown | Thane | ca. 4E 201 | All | |
Vitius Afrey | Unknown | Thane | ca. 4E 176 | Hjaalmarch | Vitius Afrey was once the Thane of Hjaalmarch, but at some point, he was replaced by an impostor who used powerful magic to assume his identity. The real Vitius was left suffering from amnesia. He forgot everything, even his own name. All he knew was that someone was waiting for him in Morthal. Upon arriving there, the Jarl hosted a celebration in his honor, known as The Day of Tyler. With no memory of his real identity, he adopted the name Tyler from the occasion. Not long afterward, he received a mysterious note accusing him of committing a crime, stating that people "knew what he did", though he himself had no idea. Accounts diverge at this point. Some claim that a member of the Sheathed Blades lost track of him during the festivities, while others suggest they either brought him to justice or tried to help him escape Morthal. In several versions, the trail leads to Riften, where an investigation into his past uncovered a monstrous truth: Tyler was not entirely what he seemed. Upon this revelation, he was either killed, escaped, or given a chance at redemption, traveling thereafter with a Sheathed Blades member as a companion. Other sources claim that Tyler was captured and imprisoned by the impostor. His friend, determined to free him, may have confronted the guards and uncovered the truth: that Tyler was, in fact, Vitius Afrey. In some accounts, they succeeded in deposing the impostor and restoring Vitius to his rightful place. Still more contradictory reports allege that the Sheathed Blades member focused instead on confronting the impostor directly. In the process, they discovered seemingly fake documents owned by the impostor indicating that "Tyler" could have been a denizen of Oblivion, sent to destroy the mortal world.[13] |
Sheathed Blade | Unknown | Thane | ca. 4E 176 | Whiterun, Winterhold, the Pale |
A member of Sheathed Blades could potentially become Thane of Winterhold, the Pale and Whiterun. They may have been granted the title of Thane of Whiterun in recognition of their efforts to protect several esteemed citizens from an assassination plot of the Dark Brotherhood. While it is unclear whether those individuals were ultimately saved, the member of the Sheathed Blades some accounts claim that they tracked down the Brotherhood's assassins and put an end to the threat against Whiterun's populace, earning the gratitude of the Jarl and the Thane title. However, other sources claim that they instead discovered and raided a cache of Brotherhood supplies.[14] |
J'Shani | Khajiit | Thane | ca. 4E 176 | Hjaalmarch | J'Shani was awarded the title of Thane by the Jarl of Morthal for saving the city from the necromancers and the undead.[17] |
Gelyph Sig | Thane | Bjorin | Author of Watcher of Stones.[18] |
