Bolar Gratius

Bolar Gratius, an Imperial citizen, is the surly cook at Castle Bruma. He once used to run his own bakery in the Imperial City, but has been reduced to a household servant after making some poor business decisions.

He sleeps from 10pm to 5am in his small room in the Service Hall of the castle and will relax in his quarters until 7am, when he eats a quick, one-hour breakfast. He starts his duties in earnest at 8am and will toil away in the kitchens for the next ten hours, offering his services. At 6pm he will enjoy a deserved, if short, dinner, before relaxing in his quarters until his bedtime.

Bolar is decked out in full chef kit: tunic, hat and shoes. He carries a beef pasty, random drinks, a random selection of rings, gold, lockpicks and food, as well as some assorted tableware.

Dialogue[edit]

If you speak to him during his working hours, his attitude is evident:

"Excuse me, I'm busy being the Count's good little chef, so if you don't mind..."
What do you do here?
"What do I do? What does it look like I do, sit in a rigid chair all day? I'm a servant of the Count. The castle's chef to be precise. I cook the food around here, and I do actual work, unlike some petty nobles around here."
You don't like serving the Count of Bruma?
"That obvious? Yes, I know it's supposed to be a great honor and my future children should worship me for putting up with it. But this isn't how I planned to live my life. Back in the good days, I owned my own bakery in the Imperial City. Citizens from all over Tamriel came to sample my cuisine! Unfortunately some deals I made to keep my business going went south... far too fast for me to adapt. I lost everything. Well, suffice it to say, now I'm here, reduced to serving. Ech."
Thanks for that.
"Yes, that was a very charming conversation. I'd just hate to see you go."
Can I buy some food from you?
"Buy some...? What do you think this is, a storefront? Oh, who am I kidding, I could use the gold. Here, let's see if we can make a trade."

He will see you off quite snarkily:

"Yes, that was a very charming conversation. I'd just hate to see you go."

Speaking to him when he's not working will net you:

"Yes? Did the Count send you? Otherwise I'm not to be bothered!"
