Dumrag gro-Morrg, an Orc warrior, is a mercenary drowning his sorrows in the Restful Watchman tavern after his wife Atul was abducted during a botched job. Depending on the ending of the quest, you may encounter him again later in the wilderness, at which point he can be made a follower.
Dumrag can be found sitting at the bar in the Watchman all day, draining tankards of ale and eating short meals at 8am, 12pm, and 7pm. If he ever becomes a follower and is dismissed, he will return to his usual schedule at the inn.
Dumrag wears a full set of iron armor, gauntlets and boots. He fights with an Orcish battleaxe and is also equipped with an Orcish war axe and an iron shield. On his person he carries a solution of health, a potion of vigorous healing, three potions of healing, three bottles of ale and a leveled amount of gold.

Quest-Related Events[edit]
If you approach him, he will mumble:
- "Gah, to fail a simple job like that. No way it was just a coincidence. There must have been- oh, hello. What are you looking at? Speak."
- What were you mumbling about?
- "I... that's none of your... Agh, I suppose there's no harm in telling you now. Who knows, maybe you'll be able to help. I'm a mercenary. Been one for years now, and I don't often fail a job. But this last time, I did fail. But not through any fault of my own."
- Let me guess - you need a hero to save the day?
- "Cut out the sarcasm. I don't appreciate it. If you want to help me, if you want the honor of working by my side, then you should at least exercise respect."
- Could you use some help?
- "Well, I suppose I could, yeah. You'll need to know more about the job first, though."
- Err, good luck with that.
- "So you're going to ask me probing questions and then walk away? Fine. Leave."
Should you leave conversation now and return, he will growl:
- "You're back. Just hadn't given me enough pointless indecision, eh? What do you want?"
- Let's talk about your problem again.
- "I... what do you think I am, talking to me like I'm some sort of a Dwarven centurion?"
- ""Tell me about your problem", "Haha, good luck with that", "Let's talk about your problem again". Ugh."
- "Fine, fine. Go ahead. I'll humor you. Just a walking, talking sideshow, eh? Not too far from the truth nowadays."
Either way, he'll continue:
- Tell me more.
- "I'd been hired by some anonymous noble to clear out a cave full of bandits near Bruma. Offered some nice coin, too. My wife came with me. We're battle-partners. Things were going well, until we were ambushed. Bandit reinforcements showed up out of nowhere, flanking us the way we came. They bound us and gagged us, left us disarmed and defeated. They left with my wife, and left me to die. I managed to escape my captivity, but when I got back to the cave they'd gone. All of them. Including my wife. I've been searching for her for damn near a whole year now, no success."
- I don't suppose there'd be pay involved?
- "A mercenary, eh? Someone after my own heart! Sure, there'd be. I have a bit of coin left over from the old days."
- I'm not interested.
- "That is a cowardly response, but I will not begrudge you for it. Return to me if you reconsider."
- I'll help you.
- "Praise Malacath! Once you turn up something solid, let me know. I'll be here. The best place to start is probably the castle. Ask the nobles. See if they know anything."
Agreeing to help will start the Ugly Love quest. At this point you can also ask him a few follow-up questions:
- How were you hired if you don't know the noble's identity?
- "Because the job came down the chain of power. I didn't get it directly from whoever ordered it. The steward gave me the job, but the steward gives out all the jobs. I doubt he even knows where the order came down from."
- What makes you so sure this was a set-up?
- "We'd made it far, and done the job expertly. There were only a few bandits left. Then, suddenly, we're ambushed from behind, knocked to the floor and restrained like dogs. I know coincidences, and this certainly wasn't one. Too meticulous. Too perfect. Too pre-planned."
- What could they want with your wife?
- "I wish I knew. Actually, no. I'm glad I don't. I don't want to think about it. It can't be good."
After you've interrogated the nobles, you can report back to Dumrag about who you think is responsible:
- "You're back. Any news on my wife? Who's the spineless wretch that sold us out? Tell me! Now!"
- I haven't decided yet.
- "Then be quick about it. The longer you dally, the longer this bastard's enjoying sweet bliss without any punishment for his crimes."
If you finger Afanna Eddici or Sinja Strong-Mind, he will howl:
- It was Afanna Eddici.
- "That's one of the noblewomen in the castle, isn't it? That woman's got it coming to her. Follow me, and stay close."
- It was Sinja Strong-Mind.
- "Then it's time to end that miserable little woman's games. Follow me, and stick close. Time to finish this."
- Wait, what are you going to do?
- "I'm going to settle this the Orc way. You can come or stay, but you can't deter me. I will settle this to please Malacath, and I won't let weaklings stand in my way."
- Okay.
- "So eager to please. C'mon. Follow me. My bloodlust must be sated."
He will then set off for the castle at once. As soon as he arrives at the throne room, he will cut her down before being himself slain by the Count's guards:
- Dumrag: "It's time! I want to see the scum that kidnapped my wife! Afanna/Sinja, come here and face me! Your games are up!"
- Victim: "What's going on here?"
- Dumrag: "Ah, yes, try to slither out of it like the snake you are. Try all you like, retribution comes swiftly."
If you instead finger Simund Gautierre, he will instead be shocked:
- It was Simund Gautierre.
- "Gautierre? The Breton? Then I'll rip his... ...wait, a Breton? Really? A Breton? Weak-willed, soft-spoken magic-practicing ponces? How could a Breton overcome an Orc? Even with bandits on his side? I remember overhearing talk in the castle that Simund had a luxury manor up in the east of the Jeralls somewhere. Go search this guy's home, see if it actually was him. Find something, anything, that conclusively links him to the crime, and bring it to me. If it is the damned Breton, that's when we act."
Speaking to him now will have him say:
- "Bretons. They're like freshborn echatere. Pretty to look at, but not a use on Nirn. It couldn't be him. Go, search his home. I want proof."
Searching the manor will turn up a letter showing he conspired with a bandit ringleader to kidnap her. Report back to Dumrag and he'll say:
- I found this letter at Simund Gautierre's house.
- "Let me see that! This... that bastard... yes! He did it, I can tell, plain as day! He tries to speak in riddles but it seems he's not all that good at subtlety... we've found the bastard! And it seems... it implies he got her alive. Perhaps she's still alive? Come, my friend. It's time we got to the bottom of this, once and for all. We're going to Gautierre's house. Now. I'll follow your lead. It's time for retribution."
- Why Gautierre's house? He wasn't there when I went...
- "Well, he wasn't at the castle when I went to do a little 'investigation' while you were away, so he must be somewhere. I bet he's at the house. Just probably not in plain sight. Slimy Breton bastard."
- Okay.
- "Time to get payback."
- Time to pay this bastard back!
- *battlecry*
Dumrag will then start to follow you as you make your way back to manor. If you speak to him now he will say:
- "I never would've believed Gautierre was the culprit, but the evidence is overwhelming. C'mon. Let's get to Gautierre's little nest and finish him."
Once inside, he will make various remarks:
- "Gautierre! Wherever you are, you slithering eel, I will have my revenge!"
- "Atul, if you're there, I love you! I'm coming!"
- "So this is it, huh? Pfft. Damned Breton and his creature comforts. Let's head inside. It's time to end this."
- "Would you look at this... silverware... Materialistic Breton bastard. Doesn't surprise me."
- "That's what he thinks of her, of course it is. Just another one of his possessions. Another trophy in his cabinet. That slimy-"
After an initial tour of the property hasn't turned anything up, he will eventually alight to some barrels on the ground floor:
- "Wait, would you look at this. There's a trapdoor under here, looks like these barrels got pushed over it. Ha ha ha, that little eel... tried to hide himself by hiding the way in, eh?"
Once you've smashed the barrel and revealed the trapdoor to the basement, he will jump in:
- "Well, that's that. Now let's march down here and find my wife."
When you enter the basement, you'll come across Atul and Simund discussing their love and secret relationship. After a while, a furious Dumrag will butt in:
- Dumrag: "You sneaky, slimy, slithering bastard. Here, with my wife. My... wife. You deviant, backstabbing..."
- Simund: "She's mine, Dumrag! She loves me!"
- Dumrag: "Your lies can't save you now, you ignorant son of a-"
- Atul: "It's true, Dumrag. I... love him."
- Dumrag: "Atul, you... faithless wretch! How dare you? How dare you forsake me so brazenly for this corrupt, spineless..."
- Simund: "Enough of this. Atul loves me. She no longer loves you. You must come to terms with that, Orc. Now, leave our home and never bother me, or her, ever again."
At this point you will have to advise Dumrag on what to do:
- "This comes as a shock... what do I do? What... do I do?"
- Do as you will. This isn't my decision to make.
- "They're both guilty. That slimy Breton, my faithless, lying wife. I take no pleasure in this, but I will end it all the same."
- Kill Gautierre. He deserves it.
- "You're right. That devious..."
- Leave them be. Try to forget they ever existed and rebuild your life.
- "I... you're right. This was bad business all around. No good can come from stooping to this level any more. I'm leaving this den of iniquity. Perhaps we'll meet again, perhaps we won't. Thanks for the help. Here, take this. Some gold from my old merc jobs."
In the first case, Simund will cry out before Dumrag strikes them both down:
- "You, there! Stranger! Help us! This crazed brute is going to kill us! Help!"
A pained Dumrag will reward you and then flee out of the manor:
- "What have I done? What have I done? I just killed my wife. I just slaughtered her in cold blood. All because of that treacherous, backstabbing... Take this. Gold from my old merc jobs. I have to leave."
- "I'm a monster. I'm worse than Gautierre. Leave me."
You may later come across him in the wilderness, beset by suicidal thoughts:
- "Someone kill me! I don't deserve to live! I'm a monster! Damn it all, I'm a monster!"
- "I deserve to die. I don't deserve to live."
- "Someone kill me. Someone disembowel me. Someone rend me from my waist to my head and stick my head on a pike!"
If speak to him, he will ask you to end his suffering:
- "You. It's... you. You saw me, what I did in Gautierre's manor. How I butchered my wife. How I slaughtered her in cold blood. I'm a monster. I don't deserve to live. I've been waiting out here for someone to kill me but justice hasn't yet materialized. Please. Just do it. Kill me. Let justice be done."
- Why do you want me to kill you?
- "Because I'm a monster. In my rage toward Gautierre I slaughtered not only him but my wife as well. I've not only committed a dishonorable act. I've committed a shameful, horrific one. And I deserve to suffer the consequences."
- I'm not going to kill you.
- "Then we have nothing further to talk about. Goodbye. And... learn from my mistakes."
- All right. I'll do it.
- "I... all right. I won't put up a fight. Just... just end this."
If you oblige him, he will urge you on: "Yes. Keep going. End it." You will then be able to loot him of his unique necklace.
In the second case, he will move towards Simund, ignoring Atul's pleas:
- "No! Get away from Simund, you blood-crazed fool!"
After this, she will angrily run away:
- "Dumrag's a murderous killer and you're little better. Leave me."
Dumrag will then reward you, before rushing after her:
- "Well, that's that. Not sure what to do now, but I'll find a way to carry on. I'm leaving this den of iniquity. Perhaps we'll meet again, perhaps we won't. Thanks for the help. Here, take this. Some gold from my old merc jobs."
- "What's done is done. It's time to move on. I'm done here."

Finally, if you convince him to spare him to spare the couple, everyone will leave the manor peacefully. In the latter two cases, you will find Dumrag fighting two ogres in the wilderness. Help him dispatch them or wait out the fight, and he will say:
- "Thanks for the assist. But still..."
- "Well, that's the end of that, I suppose - no thanks to you. But still..."
Either way he will continue:
- "Fancy seeing you out here. Far cry from Simund's warm, cozy den of sin, eh? Anyway, if there's nothing else, I've got to get going. Got more jobs to complete, more coin to earn."
Depending on which ending unfolded at the manor, he will say:
- What happened with your wife?
- "She ran off after the confrontation in Gautierre's manor. No idea where she is now. That debacle taught me a lot, though. Clearly she wasn't happy with me. Maybe going our separate ways is for the best."
- So you're back in the bounty-hunting business?
- "Ha! Yeah, that's right. Gotta make a living, after all, and bounty hunting's been my trade for Malacath knows how long. Not the same without my wife, though. I got so used to having her by my side..."
You can now ask him to become a follower:
- Why don't you join up with me?
- "With you? I... you know what? Yeah. That sounds like a good idea. Spent too much time fighting alongside my wife. I'm a bit rusty when it comes to solo combat. A battle partner would really help. So, we heading out? No worries if not - I need to head back to resupply anyway. I tend to resupply in Bruma. Cedus always gave me a pretty nice discount, so... I'll be there, if you ever want me to tag along with you."
In battle he will cry out:
- "Oh, no! You ain't taking us down! We fight as one!"
- "Hahahahaha! The thrill of battle!"
- "You slimy Breton bastard! Die!" (if enemy is Breton)
