Frost Daedra, also known as Ice Daedra,[2] are a variety of horned humanoid Elemental Daedra, considered among the most dangerous creatures in Tamriel.[3] They are intelligent and possess some spell casting abilities, they can only be harmed by mithril or better weapons and are greatly resistant to cold-based spells.[4] They are speakers of both the Daedric language and Tamrielic, as such they are sometimes capable of being negotiated with.[5][1]
They apparently have an enmity for Fire Daedra, though they are able to put this aside when serving mutual masters. Frost Daedra are considered to take things more seriously than Fire Daedra, who claim to "understand the pleasures of the dance".[6][1] Many Frost Daedra were known to serve as retainers of Xivilai Moath's clan, in service to Clan Dagon.[1]
History[edit]
The Frost Daedra of Xivilai's Clan served alongside the Shardai and Dremora Clan during Mehrunes Dagon's occupation of the Battlespire. On Faydra's orders, the Frost Daedra helped to invade the Shade Perilous along with their hated enemies, the Fire Daedra. To prevent infighting, Moath made a pact with Faydra, forcing them to work together.[1][6] This relationship did not hold, as an apprentice from the Battlespire, following the retreating Daedric armies, brought the Elemental Daedra into conflict over control of the realm.[7]
As a result of the apprentice's actions, the invasion of Shade Perilous failed, with the Frost Daedra receiving the brunt of the blame. As a result the Frost Daedra received lesser standing with Mehrunes Dagon, and were made to serve as the Lesser Dogs of the Great Hunt hosted at the Chimera of Desolation. [6][1] Though they failed to stop the apprentice there as well.[8]

Notes[edit]
- Frost Daedra exist in Daggerfall alongside Ice Atronachs, which are typically Golems[9][10][11] but some quests treat them as Daedra comparable to the Frost Atronachs present in later games.[12]
