Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

The quest can be started two ways. Firstly, by reading the Reward for Missing Steed! note, found to the east of the mountain on the western side of Sunport Bay. The second way is by coming across Squire Albec near the campsite as he calls out for somebody called Honor:

Squire Albec: "Honor? Where are you? I have snacks! They're delishectable!"

Talking with Squire Albec, he will explain that he is looking for Sir Cadwell's Bantam Guar steed. The pair are originally from Coldharbour, but something brought part of their realm to Nirn and now they are currently stranded on Solstice. In the confusion Honor's pen was broken open and the steed wandered off. Squire Albec believes that if he finds Honor and returns him, Sir Cadwell will make him his official squire.

After agreeing to help, Squire Albec will become your follower and you can begin tracking Honor. Crouch down and Honor's trail will be marked with highlighted bushes and bright green tracks which go northwest. Following the bantam guar's tracks, you come across a group of rabbits he played with and some Badar Berries Honor snacked on. However, when you find a single sword on the ground, Squire Albec will recognize the make and becomes concerned:

Squire Albec: "Oh my! That's a Deathbringer's sword! Honor's in a briny pickle this time! Let me tell you why!"

Talking with Squire Albec, he will explain Honor has a strong hatred for the Deathbringer Dremora clan and if he scented one, he would have gone hunting for them. Apparently Honor becomes feral when enraged and only Cadwell can calm him down. Squire Albec will want to keep tracking Honor and hopefully find him before he comes across any Deathbringers. You can continue following the trail, coming across a dead crab and other animals before sighting a Xivilai standing on a large rock and talking to a scamp.

Deathbringer Zara-Vyln: "You let that silly guar get away? Find it! I want to send its bones to the knight."
<Deathbringer Zara-Vyln opens a portal and the two daedra depart.>
Squire Albec: "That Deathbringer knows about Honor! Let's make a plan."

Talking with Squire Albec, he recognizes Deathbringer Zara-Vyln and says she is a great rival of Sir Cadwell and is always trying to steal his stuff or kill him. She appears to be after Honor this time, and as Honor may still be nearby, Albec will hand you Honor's Fruit Blend Snack and tells you to put it on the ground. Once you do so, you can wait for Honor to appear, however you were not the only one to be waiting for the steed:

<Honor appears and moves cautiously to the bowl. Zara-Vyln suddenly jumps out of a portal.>
Deathbringer Zara-Vyln: "There's the little beast. You're mine now!"
<Squire Albec runs in and jumps in the path of the portal trap.>
Squire Albec: "I'll save you, Honor!"
<Squire Albec is pulled into the portal and Zara-Vyln leaves.>

With Squire Albec gone, you have few options but to talk to Honor and see if he can do anything. As he is a bantam guar he is unable to talk, but you get the feeling he wants you to follow him. Once you have finished your conversation, Honor will race off, and you can follow him to a stone door on the northern side of the mountain. If you talk to Honor, you get the hint that he wants you to check the door.

You can then knock on the door to the Hillside Refuge and get a response:

Deathbringer Zara-Vyln: "Go away! I hate interruptions when I'm tormenting a mortal."
Deathbringer Zara-Vyln: "Just ignore them. Whoever it is will go away eventually."

When you knocked on the door, you also noticed it was locked, so you can check with Honor to see if he can help. Again, Honor communicates without words, and you get the idea he wants to go into a nearby hole in the wall. After giving him the go ahead, Honor will enter the hole and the player-viewpoint will shift to him. You control Honor's movements and can explore the narrow passage and search for a way to open the door to the Hillside Refuge. While exploring the ruins, you can overhear a conversation between Deathbringer Zara-Vyln and Squire Albec, proving the latter is still alive:

Squire Albec: "You have this odd fixitation [sic] on Honor. Might I recommend a different hobby?"
Deathbringer Zara-Vyln: "I want Cadwell's creature, not you. How do I find it? How can I lure it in?"
Squire Albec: "I won't tell you anything, so you'll just let me go? Right?"
Deathbringer Zara-Vyln: "Sit tight, scrawny mortal. You'll serve as excellent bait."

Near the door, Honor will find a lever, once he pulls it the player will be back in control of their character. You can then enter the Refuge and go inside the shrine room where you will find Squire Albec tied up and Deathbringer Zara-Vyln pacing around. Honor will have somehow snuck in and is standing beside Albec. You will need to kill Zara-Vyln so you can free Squire Albec, once you have done so, you can follow Honor and Albec as they leave the Hillside Refuge through the exit tunnel.

Outside, you will find yourself on a cliff ledge and you can jump down to find Honor and Squire Albec who are waiting nearby. Talk to Squire Albec to complete the quest:

"Deathbringer Zara-Vyln seemed obsessed with poor Honor. Kept asking about his favorite food or what sounds he makes. But I held strong. How could I ever betray him or Sir Cadwell?
To be honest, I've had worse interrogations."
Both you and Honor are safe now.
"Too right! I'll take this magnificous fellow home, clean him up a bit, then give Sir Cadwell the good news. This time tomorrow, I'll be a full squire.
All thanks to you, of course. Here's that prize I offered."

You will be given some gold and a dagger called Honor's Fang as a reward.
