Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
Speak to Maj al-Ragath to get the details of this quest.
- What's the pledge today?
- "Darkshade Caverns! the Kwama burrowed into some Dwarven ruins at the heart of the place and activated something that's driving everyone mad.
- Man, machine and beast tearing themselves apart! A true test for you, Undaunted."
- And if I can handle more than that?
- "Try to destroy the construct that's protecting the source of all this mayhem without deactivating any of its defenses. That's what I would do."
- I pledge to explore Darkshade Caverns and return Undaunted.
Once you have accepted the quest, you can enter the Darkshade Caverns II dungeon either by accessing the dungeon through the Dungeon Finder, or heading to Stonefalls and entering the dungeon there with a group. You have the choice of entering the normal dungeon or the veteran version, this choice will affect if you can achieve the optional step and your rewards.
When inside the dungeon, you will need to progress through the dungeon, slaying the following bosses, the Transmuted Hive Lord, Grobull the Transmuted and the Engine Guardian. With the last boss, if you are in the veteran dungeon, you have the option of completing the optional task of defeating the Engine Guardian without activating any levers.
Once you have completed the task, you can return to Maj al-Ragath at any of the Undaunted Enclaves, and speak with her to complete the quest:
- "Well, you don't look crazy. I take it you smashed all that Dwarven machinery to bits?"
- The Engine Guardian has been destroyed.
- "It's fun, isn't it? Scrapping all those clanking, sputtering gadgets. I probably shouldn't enjoy it as much as I do, but when else do you get to smash priceless artifacts to pieces and get thanked for it?"
- Speaking of thanks …. my reward? / What have I earned for destroying the Engine Guardian?
Condition | Dialogue |
---|---|
Normal mode completed | "You'll have more than a few battered cogs to show for your effort today. Take your key and your cut. Tomorrow we'll find you something equally as fun to break!" |
Veteran mode completed | "You've earned more than whatever trophies you pulled from those cogwork monstrosities. Take your key and your cut! Tomorrow I'll see about finding you a foe with the decency to bleed!" |
Veteran Hard Mode completed | "For dismantling that oversized contraption without a care for the Dwarves' diabolical designs, I'll scrape together more than a pat on the back! Take your key and your cut! Tomorrow I'll seek out a challenge to rival what you've accomplished today." |

- Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
