64px Name Carved Conch Shell Necklace Value 250
Amalein
Notes with this catalog say it was apparently found while following a cute, three-toed creature. Beautiful. I wonder about the significance of the conch shells. Just a plentiful material for the artisan?
Ugron gro-Thumog
These carvings look Argonian, I believe from the remote Tide-Born group on the distant isle of Solstice. From what little I know of them, this piece may serve as a symbolic connection to the sea.
Muzah-Tei
You have it right. The conch whispers from deep waters. As a people they are never far from the waters that gave them life. With this they carry the song of the tides with them.

Verita Numida
Notes attached to the find indicates it was buried in the sand along a beach. Why would one need to bring fresh water to the ocean? What a curious ritual.
Muzah-Tei
The warmth of the tides sits well upon the scales. But salt is terrible for the eyes. Celebrants plunge their face within the basin and gaze deep, seeing what the tides seek to show them without the sting.

ON-icon-stolen-Tile.png Name Cracked Chukka-Sei Token Value 5,000
Muzah-Tei
I've seen celebrants carry similar crests after undergoing their chukka-sei ritual of change. But none like this. At first glance, a reward? But why wear a prized crest into battle? Maybe charms from loved ones? Rituals may have gotten more intense after invasive arrivals on Solstice. The Tide-Born had to grow. They needed to change.

64px Name Solstice Giant Crocodile Skull Value N/A
Amalien
An impressive specimen. I've seen similar skulls from Black Marsh, and it may be a related family. Rarely does one find one of this size and condition. A good varnish would help preserve it and keep the exposed bone from drying out too badly.
Muzah-Tei
Reptiles such as this grow throughout their lives. This one might have seen the first arrivals of the High Elves to Solstice. I doubt it was happy about the situation. Even less so when it was defeated.
Reginus Buca
It may have been more than just a simple trophy, though. I've seen notes that some Sithis sects revere these beasts as guardian animals. Perhaps it had help reaching this size, defending a temple all its long life.

64px Name Large Solstice Bismuth Tower Value N/A
Reginus Buca
Bismuth is found in small quantities throughout Tamriel, but nowhere else do we see it in such abundances and size. The environment that allows such massive uniform accretion would be both impressive and unique.
Ugron gro-Thumog
Look at how it catches the light and refracts it within its structure. I wouldn't be surprised if it would have similar effects on other energies. But I sincerely doubt this structure was natural. Perhaps shaped by a culture that respected its natures?
Verita Numida
A good catch Ugron. I believe this was shaped by a Stone-Nest Argonian tribe, this is almost identical to ancient markers that indicated a xanmeer building site. I've never seen one made with such a novel material though!

64px Name Geometric Stone-Nest Totem Value N/A
Muzah-Tei
I've seen smaller versions of these totems in Black Marsh, dating back to pre-Duskfall times. Precisely dating them could indicate when the Stone-Nest people first arrived on Solstice.
Amalien
It is without a doubt this was not made unaided. Instead, I have a theory that even earlier waves of settlers on Solstice, aided by supernatural forces, crafted such large blocks and moved them into position through levitation spells.
Verita Numida
Stone carvings in such patterns are common among the Argonians, and there is no question of local variance and creativity. They're often used as markers for sacred sites, or waystones to guide travel. One might assume this was used in a similar fashion, but who can say?

64px Name Solstice Giant Crocodile Ribs Value N/A
Reginus Buca
A massive crocodile ribcage! Most of one, anyway. It's quite an impressive curiosity, but I doubt that it's anything more than a trophy taken long ago by some well-off hunter in Black Marsh.
Amalien
This no hunter's trophy. Look at the carvings on the bones, Argonian. The people of Black Marsh are known to preserve legendary beasts who have acted as temple guardians.
Muzah-Tei
Argonian yes. Black Marsh, no. Sithis-worshipping Argonians on the isle of Solstice husband these enormous beasts as temple guardians. This is likely a remnant of a stalwart defender of a secret, sacred site.

64px Name Solstice Giant Crocodile Tail Value N/A
Verita Numida
Alas, this appears to be one of those occasions where old trash is mistaken for historic treasure. Skeletal crocodile tails such as this were popular in Leyawiin in the 3rd century of the Second Era. You could buy one from any street merchant.
Muzah-Tei
Look at the size of this thing. Surely no street vendor carried this. And, I believe this came from no crocodile in Black Marsh. The fine scale pattern near the tip? That is found in a crocodile breed from the island of Solstice. And I promise you Solstice Argonians were not selling them as souvenirs.
Reginus Buca
Then this is the rare occasion where something historic is mistaken for old trash! I have found stories, perhaps just tall tales, but they say that these crocodiles were once so massive multiple Argonian riders rode into battle against Daedric invaders. Perhaps this is a remnant from that singular age.

64px Name Stone-Nest Totem, Iguana Value N/A
Ugron gro-Thumog
A household totem, rather common in Black Marsh. Argonians consider lizards to be clever and lucky. This totem is old and quite well made. I suspect it belonged to a shaman or chief of some importance.
Amalien
Lizard? Actually, this is a representation of an iguana. Which is a lizard, of course, but one found primarily on the island of Solstice. I doubt very much that this totem comes from Black Marsh.
Muzah-Tei
Indeed. The Stone-Nest Saxhleel of Solstice admire iguanas for their fearlessness and tenacity. The carving technique marks it as eastern Solstice. 28th century of the First Era. Hardly a common totem at all.

64px Name Stone-Nest Totem, Behemoth Value N/A
Reginus Buca
Here we have a soapstone figurine, carved in the shape of a massive Argonian. Clearly, the figure depicts an Argonian behemoth--a tribal totem, perhaps. It could be centuries old; it's hard to tell with soapstone.
Ugron gro-Thumog
Argonian behemoths are fearsome warriors. See the faint scoring marks? Soapstone is soft, but even so it takes a long time for etched lines to wear smooth. The style is strange, too. Mid-First Era, but from where?
Muzah-Tei
I am not surprised the style is strange to you. This totem comes from the Stone-Nest saxhleel of Solstice. 11th or 12th century. It depicts a vahath behemoth, a warrior cursed to relish excessive violence and death.

64px Name Stone-Nest Totem, Massive Skull Value N/A
Amalien
This enormous totem is carved in the shape of an distended skull? I think this marked a forbidden place. I suspect it dates back to the Blackwater War. Resisting Argonians often warned the invading Imperials to stay away from their holy places.
Muzah-Tei
Saxhleel totems can stand for many things. A skull almost always stands for Raj-Sithis, destroyer and bringer of change. However, I have never seen a Black Marsh Nisswo carry or display a totem quite like this.
Reginus Buca
I can shed some light on that! Corelanya accounts of their early years in exile on Solstice mention a secret cult of Argonian assassins known as "Death Dancers." The Elven records describe similar totems left by the bodies of their victims. So this is likely a death cult icon from that distant isle.

ON-icon-stolen-Moon Pearl.png Name Baliwog Pearl Eyelets Value N/A
Ugron gro-Thumog
Unusual material for shoe eyelets. Opalescent and energetically potent, I was surprised to see it holds a magicka charge in my standard intake tests. I'd bet Daedric in nature except I don't know of any Daedra that make pearls.
Reginus Buca
Understandable miss on your part, my friend. The strange beasts of the Shivering Isles are rarely top of mind when we think of Oblivion. Check your references on the strange ecology the mad god has created in his Realm.
Ugron gro-Thumog
Well I'll be. I'd never heard of a Grummite or a Baliwog before! Let alone anything about this maddening maturation cycle. The cultist that sought out their pearls to use as materials was dedicated, talented, and I'd guess not all together sane.

64px Name Gnarl-fiber Laces Value N/A
Reginus Buca
Testing indicates these thick laces were made from a Daedric fiber, crafted from the bark of the Gnarl. That places its origin as the Shivering Isles. Why or to what end this was done, I haven't a clue, but the business of cataloging carries on.
Reginus Buca
It's been months since an item for catalog tried to kill me. Quite novel, this one, the laces crawled from their container and were trying to get up my nostrils when I woke and flung them across the room. Ugron talked me out of burning them.
Amalien
I've taken over this catalog so that Reginus doesn't burn yet another specimen. Tests have shown that the essence in these laces absolutely lives on. I'd wager that with hydration and nutrients a whole knew Gnarl could be grown from just these fibers.

64px Name Grummite Flesh Sole Value N/A
Amalien
Oddities abound, here. The sole of a shoe, that much is obvious, but the material is extremely strange. Absolutely not cowhide. And the top of the sole, pressing up against the bottom of the foot, has numerous Daedric glyphs burned into the hide.
Verita Numida
This has sparked my curiosity, Amalien. Tests show it is proofed against all manner of Oblivion realm materials. Made with hide from some Daedric beast, and shaped by cruel claws. This is why I focus on things like first Empire trade routes. Much simpler.
Reginus Buca
We've had a run on artifacts from the Shivering Isles, so I took a leap. This is Grummite hide, a bipedal beast from Sheogorath's realm. Did one being shape the flesh of another? Or, disturbing thought, did a Grummite shape its own flesh into this sole?

64px Name Comically Curled Toecap Value N/A
Ugron gro-Thumog
This is ridiculous. I am a serious researcher, damn it all. What Jester's Festival foppery is this toecap? This looks like the kind of thing Jester Queen Ayrenn would sell at a booth for the holiday.
Amalien
Ugron, you're lucky I went digging at your desk for your notes on that Akavari artifact. This isn't a holiday frippery, it's made with Amberweave Cloth and was stitched by a madness metal needle. This is from the Shivering Isles!
Ugron gro-Thumog
Putting this in the context of the Mad God's realm is a great discovery. Well done Amalien. My reading ties this toecap directly to Sheogorath himself, or perhaps a high level cultist. I'd bet it was used as part of a ceremonial outfit of some kind.

64px Name Hunger-leather Heel Value N/A
Amalien
An over-large heel made of thickly layered leather. I'm not sure what boot this would be appropriate for but the material here is resilient, almost magically so. My mind wanders to exotic materials, as it so often does. I will consult our samples.
Amalien
A Daedric creature called a Hunger donated its hide to the creation of this heel. My estimate is no less than three Hungers gave their hides to make this artifact. I've attempted to research anyone husbanding Hungers for materials and come up empty.
Verita Numida
What a unique discovery! In collaboration with Amalein I've found reports of a "Hunger farm" somewhere in the Shivering Isles. The means, methods, and rationale behind establishing such a facility is something I will continue to pursue.

ON-icon-armor-Epaulets-New Moon Priest.png Name Double-Moon Leather Cop Value N/A
Verita Numida
This appears to be part of an articulated leather shoulder-piece. The double-moon design is a common Khajiit motif. The dagger-like emblem dividing the moons suggests the kingdom of Anequina, first century of the Second Era.
Ugron gro-Thumog
The design may appear common, but the material is highly unusual. It's terror-bird hide, which makes sense for the region. But it's been steeped in a strange oil or reagent, something dark and strong. I do not know it.
Amalien
Armor treated with techniques our Orc expert doesn't recognize? I think this arm cop was worn by a Khajiiti warrior who walked in dark places indeed. We're looking at something made for a dro-m'Athra, my friends!

ON-icon-armor-Shield-Minotaur.png Name Nightwing Besagew Value N/A
Ugron gro-Thumog
A leather besagew, part of a larger piece of shoulder armor. Specifically, the besagew is a plate protecting the armpit. Don't be fooled by the bat-wing shape. It's made of layered terror-bird hide. Old Khajiit workmanship, but an unusual motif.
Reginus Buca
I can explain the bat-wing design. In Elsweyr bats are sometimes associated with Namiira, their Great Darkness. Few Khajiit warriors would openly wear such a device unless they were devoted to the Bent Dance.
Gabrielle Benele
There is a word for Khajiit who give themselves to Namiira: dro-m'Athra. The dark coloration suggests the black fur of a cat lost to the Bent Dance, and the light-blue highlight represents the pale fire glowing in their soulless eyes.

64px Name Blackened Moonstone Rivets Value N/A
Verita Numida
Small rivets such as these secure pieces of armor. They are fitted through slots so the plates can slide past each other; for example, as part of a shoulder piece. The rivets seem to be ebon steel, so this could be from a set of Dwemer armor.
Ugron gro-Thumog
You are mistaken. These rivets are made of moonstone ore, subsequently altered in a blacking process. Moonstone is the signature alloy of Khajiit metalcraft, but I have never seen it treated in this way. A very rare find indeed.
Gabrielle Benele
Altered moonstone would not only look different, its mystical properties would also be changed. Blackened moonstone would lend itself to enchantments of shadow and despair. I suspect the warrior who wore this was a champion of darkness.

ON-icon-armor-Arm Cops-Gloamsedge.png Name Darkheart Leather Cop Value N/A
Reginus Buca
An old, well-made piece of leather armor intended to protect the top of the shoulder. The flourishes appear to be Khajiit in design, likely dating back to the late First Era. I feel there is something sinister about the design.
Gabrielle Benele
Sinister, indeed. The embellishments represent a void with something missing in the center--the Khajiit myth of Namiira and the heart of Lorkhaj. I believe this armor was worn by a powerful dro-m'Athra, a Khajiit who lost their soul to darkness.
Amalien
There are obscure Twilight Cantor songs that tell of a dro-m'Athra champion or warlord called the Fang of Lorkhaj. According to legend, there is only one Fang at a time. I think this armor belonged to one of those dark champions!

64px Name Darkheart Armor Glaze Value N/A
Amalien
This is rather mysterious! A black, heavy oil of some kind, preserved in a bronze vial of Khajiit craftsmanship. It rather looks like midnight in a bottle. I suppose it is some sort of alchemical admixture or reagent.
Verita Numida
Midnight in a bottle? Poetic nonsense. This is a glaze used to finish ceramics or metalwork. If you examine the vial, you can discern the image of an ancient Elsweyr warrior. I am surprised by the absence of a moon motif, though.
Gabrielle Benele
The moons are not absent, they are in eclipse. Khajiit born under the Dark Moon are susceptible to the Dark Heart, which ensnares them in the Bent Dance. I suspect the warrior on the vial is a Fang of Lorkhaj, a terrible dro-m'Athra champion.

64px Name Duotone Engraved Band Value N/A
Reginus Buca
Lovely piece, exquisitely carved. Clearly it's the band of a ring. The engraving is hard to make out, but it seems Ayleid in origin. Perhaps Amalien's younger eyes will see something I can't.
Amalien
I'm always happy to oblige Reginus, and this finding is no different. The engraving is a small phrase of some sort. Something about balance and chaos? Could be part of a religious text, the material is well-worn.
Verita Numida
It's a spell! A little-known reference in the unabridged Anuad tipped me off. This circular band acts as a foci for larger magical elements, though without those pieces I can't properly verify what the intended effect is.

64px Name Gloamium Ring Bearing Value N/A
Muzah-Tei
Finely worked piece. Expert craftsmanship. Ring bearing is smooth as a river stone, made of precious metal that must have been costly on its own. Masterwork of jewelry and design.
Reginus Buca
I don't think this piece is as valuable as Muzah-Tei says it is. There's a strange imperfection in the center of the bearing. No gem or jewel would be able to sit correctly in it. This was an apprentice's first attempt at working with a new material.
Muzah-Tei
Reginus doubts. Indentation similar to those found in First Era Saxhleel pieces. Allows for two stones or gems to nestle side-by-side. Well beyond a novice's skill. Duality was very important in early Anuic and Padomaic sects.

64px Name Anu Crest Value N/A
Amalien
I haven't seen a crest like this before. It's archaic, even by High Elf standards. The rigid, repetitive markings seem to suggest a sense of order or being part of a larger pattern. Perhaps it was worn as a boon or good luck token by the Ayleids?
Reginus Buca
It wouldn't have been worn alone. Look at the back, it's meant to be set into a larger piece. I recognize this marking, actually. It was printed on an ancient copy of the Anuad I once came across. The crest is Anu's, denoting protection and order.
Ugron gro-Thumog
Amalien's right. Surviving battle reports from the Ayleids suggest a two-fold stance warriors could take in battle. One defensive, the other offensive. The crest is a a signifier of those who prioritized defense and holding their ground in battle.

64px Name Padomay Sigil Value N/A
Muzah-Tei
Excellent condition on sigil, serpent scales individually carved. Great care was taken here. Treasured homage to Sithis? More precious than the last unbroken egg in a clutch.
Verita Numida
Muzah-Tei speaks true, but his analysis leaves something to be desired. The sigil is incomplete, suggesting less the unbroken form of Sithis, and more the duality of Anu and Padomay. Could be Altmer in origin.
Amalien
Verita's comment got me thinking. Ayleid mythology describes a double-edged fighting form, harnessing order and chaos. This sigil is one half of a warrior's mark! Here, chaos represents recklessly striking down one's enemies on the battlefield.

64px Name Moonstone Ring Bearing Value N/A
Amalien
This bearing is so tiny and cute! But it still spins as smoothly as if it was fashioned yesterday. It almost reminds me of the cogs in Dwemer constructs, but it's made purely of stone. Can you imagine the expertise required for such a thing?
Verita Numida
The quality suggests Elven origin, and the material is somewhat reactive to magicka. Could it be enchanted? Or have reacted to enchantments in a larger piece?
Ugron gro-Thumog
Jewelry isn't my strong suit, but this piece is interesting. Some ancient enchanted rings have mechanisms that allow the wearer to rotate a component, often for combat purposes. This gear would allow a mage to quickly adjust to combat mid-battle.

64px Name Stepped Fret Plinth Value N/A
Muzah-Tei
Delicate fret work. Well preserved despite sand and grit. Wind motif? No. Surging waters. Crashing waves. Perhaps a funerary plinth? Base for votives. Offerings. Unless we are looking at a stump missing its trunk.
Verita Numida
Take notice of the grooves along the plinth's edge and the less defined scratches near its center. I posit this was a merchant's plinth. A jewelry stand of some sort would account for the wear, with dangling necklaces leading to the scratches.
Muzah-Tei
Why an additional stand when plinth works just as well? Defeats purpose of plinth. Although, must admit, grooves are sign of consistent wear. Repetitive motion. A stand for a tool or mechanism? Much to chew on.

64px Name Harmonic Bismite Value N/A
Amalien
You should have seen my face when I dug this piece of bismuth from the ground. With the way it caught the moonlight, I thought I had found a piece of the Aurbis itself. Seems lighter than it should be, though. Can bismuth be hollow?
Muzah-Tei
Have you tried coaxing the songbird from its nest? A swift hammer tap should suffice. Listen closely. Some birds sing at frequencies difficult for Altmer to hear.
Verita Numida
I believe Muzah-Tei is asking if you have checked the bismuth for harmonic qualities. Surely you would have noticed drilled perforations had this bismuth been used for beadwork. Therefore, its hollow nature may be a sign of musical properties.

64px Name Carved Stone Key Value N/A
Reginus Buca
I have come across an interesting piece of stonework, Verita. Fits comfortably in the palm of your hand and not of insignificant weight. I thought this may be a mercantile tool of some sort. Perhaps a weight to measure goods on a scale?
Verita Numida
I could say the same about any stone found in a dig site. No, I believe this to be an embellishment. Note the small hole on the underside of the stone. Shallow, but purposeful. It may have decorated a tool or weapon.
Amalien
There seem to be signs of faded threads in the hole you noted, Verita. I've seen similar threading in Dwemer machinery, especially their finer mechanisms. Rather than an embellishment or weight, I believe this may be the head of a winding key.

A gorgeous specimen to say the least. Clearly well-tended to, as no natural phenomenon would lead to such an even polish. A keepsake reminiscent of home? After all, culture can be found even in the odds and ends we carry with us.
Muzah-Tei
Top of shell, yes, but interior as well. Circular grooves near edge twist towards mouth. Hermit crab, must be, but long lived. Remained with shell long enough to leave grooves. Fingerprints. This was a symbiotic relationship.
Reginus Buca
Of course. A treasured companion. I still remember brushing the coat of a mastiff I had as a child. The gentle work of this polish has taken on a new light, Muzah-Tei. Let us hope this crab merely outgrew its shell.

Ugron gro-Thumog
There are battle hymns sung in Orsinium that tell of drumbeats that enraged local wildlife and could drive wolves towards your foes. Perhaps this comb offers a soothing melody to these crabs? Additionally, please explain your written laughter.
Muzah-Tei
Clouds part, of course. A tide song held in these delicate metal teeth. Calming. Restorative. I must seek out its companion drum. Or, if none to be found, a Tide-Reader who may recognize its tune. Lastly, laughter offered so others may partake.
