Yggulf the Mute

Yggulf the Mute is a Nord thief and Footpad of the Thieves Guild who can be found in the basement of The Empress Katariah in Old Ebonheart. He sells lockpicks and probes to fellow members of the Thieves Guild, and also stocks a copy of Scroll of Ekash's Lock Splitter. He plays a particularly prominent role in the Thieves Guild quest, An Empress' Ransom.

He wears a common shirt, a pair of common pants, and a pair of Nordic bearskin boots. He carries the picks and probes that he sells.

Aside from his natural resistance to shock, immunity to frost, ability to shield himself, and a natural frost damage spell, he knows no spells.

Thieves Guild: An Empress' Ransom[edit]

  • Greetings:
"Cowards! Maggots! Bastards! Damn them all to the lowest dungpit of Oblivion!"
  • You can talk?:
"Of course I can bloody well talk, %PCName, you bloody fool. Haven't had anything worth saying until now, is all. I know better than to ruin a good silence by talking. But now... now... I can't stay silent anymore. Those cursed guards!" (Disposition -5, go to 'What happened' choice below)
  • What happened?:
"Those damn Legion boys raided the inn. Three-Scales, Naamalvu and myself managed to escape, but they took Moranie and Cap'n Fentus."
  • Why was the inn raided?:
"I reckon it has something to do with the fact we're a bunch of thieves. But I don't know who's the cur who tipped them off. Or with what evidence. In any case, they've taken Moranie and Fentus to the Ebon Tower dungeons. Only a miracle can save them now." (Hello set to 30)
(If you haven't already asked him about his ability to speak):
  • You can talk?:
"Oh, I'm sorry... do you have trouble hearing me? Of course I can bloody well talk, %PCName, you bloody fool! Haven't had anything worth saying until now, is all." (Disposition -5, go to 'Why was the inn raided' choice above)
"The guards have arrested Moranie and Fentus. Only a miracle can save them now."
"Shadow hide you, %PCName. If anyone can save Moranie and the captain, it's you. Good luck."
  • Moranie and Fentus:
"They're kept in the Legion dungeons, deep underneath the Ebon Tower, waiting for judgment. Moranie probably will get a relatively light sentence, a few years of hard labor, but the captain... they'll hang that old pirate for sure. Breaking them out of there would be downright impossible. But... perhaps you'd be able to sneak in undetected and manage to have a word with them? Find out if, by some miracle, you could help them?"
  • Help them? How?:
"Beats me, to be frank. Maybe Moranie has a plan? She usually has a plan."
  • How can I get to the dungeons?:
"The main entrance is obviously not an option. But... the city's sewer system is connected to the sewers under the Ebon Tower. You can get to the eastern sewers from our hideout. From there keep going west until you reach the tower bridge sewer. It will lead you underneath the Ebon Tower. You might be able to find an entrance to the Legion dungeons somewhere there. If I could draw a map for you, I would. Should you have trouble finding your way someone at the Palace of Beggars might be able to help you."
  • I'll be off then.:
"One last thing. I might be stating the obvious here, but for the love of gods, stay out of sight. If the guards spot you... If they catch you... You'll end up in the same hole as Moranie and Fentus and it will ruin any chance of ever getting them out. Stay hidden and good luck!"
  • No, I don't like this. Why me?:
"Who else would do it? Antio? He's a no-show, once again. Me? I'm just a tinkerer of funny-looking lockpicks. I don't have the skills needed for this job. If you can't do this, no one can. Moranie and the captain are doomed without your help." (Also see 'I'll be off then' choice above)
  • Sorry, I don't think I'm ready for this yet.:
"You think it's too much for you to handle? I don't blame you... But if you don't do this you can't stay in Old Ebonheart. The city guards will arrest all Thieves Guild members on sight. For the time being, you must go into exile. There's a grotto called Khalammu in the central sewers. You can use that to leave and later re-enter the city without anyone seeing you. Hone your skills, do jobs elsewhere and come back to me when you're ready to help Moranie and Fentus." Goodbye
  • How can I get to the dungeons?: (See 'The main entrance is obviously...' response)
  • And once I'm in how am I supposed to help them?:
"Beats me, to be frank. Maybe Moranie has a plan? She usually has a plan." (See 'I'll be off then' and 'No, I don't like this' choices above)

  • Palace of Beggars:
"That's what the old maintenance room in the eastern sewers is called nowadays. It's home to the poorest of the poor. Don't necessarily like outsiders much, but they're good people, every single one of them. They know the sewers better than anyone."
