Windhelm

Eastern Skyrim was established after High King Logrolf was assassinated 2E 431 heralding a major change in Skyrim. Naturally, the throne would have been passed to the High King's heir, Jarl Freydis of Windhelm. However, tension had arisen between the east and west when Jarl Svartr of Solitude had challenged her claim to leadership and thus called for a moot. Freydis was accepted by the Crown of Verity and named High Queen, though part of the Moot chose Svartr as High King. What followed was a decisive schism that split Skyrim in two, creating distinct Western and Eastern Kingdoms. In the east, Freydis and her successors ruled over Eastmarch, The Rift, The Pale, and Winterhold, which collectively are part of the Old Holds.

In 2E 572 a fleet originating from the Akaviri nation of Kamal, under the command of Ada'Soom Dir-Kamal, invaded northern Tamriel during the Interregnum. United by a common enemy, the Nords of Eastern Skyrim, the Dunmer of Morrowind and the Argonians of Black Marsh jointly defeated the Akaviri invaders and formed an unusual alliance, the Ebonheart Pact. Queen Mabjaarn Flame-Hair and her heir, Nurnhilde, fell in battle, making Mabjaarn's son, Jorunn heir to the throne. Eastern Skyrim fought in the Three Banners War, with Jorunn leading the Ebonheart Pact. Eastern Skyrim, was eventually reunified with the rest of Skyrim into a single realm following the Tiber War.
