Arana, leader of the Witch-rebels turned Wayward Guardians (ESO)
Witch-rebels, a faction of wilder Reachfolk

Wilders,[1][2] or wilder clans,[3] is a term used by the Reachfolk to describe Reachmen and clans not directly affiliated with Markarth. These clans inhabit the rocky crags of the Reach,[4] and do not swear fealty to the Ard.[3][5] This does not apply to all clans in the Reach, as some clans inhabited Markarth, and were loyal and subject to the Ard;[6][7] for instance, the Stonehands were a clan, which served as Ard's personal guard.[7] Entire clans, such as the Starsinger Clan, were also found in Cyrodiil during the rule of the Longhouse Emperors.[8] Some of those Imperialized Reachfolk returned to the Reach, and some of them joined the wilder clans afterward.[9][10]

Although Wilders are typically attuned to nature, even they sometimes forget that dark things tend to happen when the land is angry.[1]

The River-Elks were a large wilder clan, often referred to as a "clan of many tents" by other wilders.[11]

According to Reach customs, Markarth should serve as a neutral territory, accessible to any wilder wishing to visit and trade.[12]

Members of the Thornroot Clan preyed upon innocent Wilders, attempting to transform them into their army of briarhearts.[13][14]

The Witch Rebels, led by Arana was a faction of the Wilders that opposed the rule of Ard Caddach, the leader of the city Reachfolk of Markarth.[3][5] They eventually reconciled with him, leader of Markarth, and the city Reachfolk, and became known as the Wayward Guardians.[3][15]
