Before she could leave, however, something hanging from a tree in the distance caught her eye. Trotty moved to take a closer look. She wasn't as fast on land as she was in water, but by the time she had reached the tree, the hanging thing had barely moved. It had long limbs, black, beady eyes, and was fuzzy all over. —The Turtle and the Sloth

Sloths are herbivorous mammals commonly found on the isle of Solstice. Three-Toed Sloths are a variety of sloth found on the island,[1][2] known for their arboreal lifestyle,[3] small size,[4][5] slow movement,[6] and their distinctive scent.[7] Sloths have long limbs, fuzzy bodies, and black, beady eyes.[6]

Some inhabitants of Solstice kept sloths as pets,[8] and their presence left a mark on local culture. Sloths also appeared in Sunport fables, including stories like The Turtle and the Sloth.[6] The sloths of Solstice had long been favored pets among Sunport residents, especially children. It was not uncommon for teachers to conduct "sloth checks" to ensure that enterprising students were not using their bags to smuggle sloths into lessons.[2] They were considered cute by a portion of the local populace.[9]

Manuals on sloth care were widely circulated across the island.[10] Some ceramic bowls used for children's morning meals were decorated with sloth imagery,[11] Sloth shaped dolls fashioned from seaweed, stone and sticks were a common sight on the island.[12]

Businesses were occasionally named after them, such as the Sleepy Sloth Inn in Sunport, where the creatures could also be seen lounging about.[13][14] One of the inn rooms within the building was named after an amusing incident with Solstice's sloths.[3] Another unusual incident involving sloths occurred in 2E 582, when the settlement of Shor's Stand was terrorized by a sloth wearing a magical hat. While wearing the enchanted item, the sloth, dubbed "the Beast" by locals was capable of wielding destructive magic. The situation was ultimately resolved with the assistance of Britt the Bold of the Nord Cultural Exchange.[15][16]
